Getting Started
Follow these steps to set up Babel Fish on your iOS device:
Install Babel Fish
Download and install Babel Fish from the App Store on your iOS device.
Add Your OpenRouter API Key
Open Babel Fish and enter your OpenRouter API key in the settings. You can get an API key from openrouter.ai.
Add the Keyboard
Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard and select Babel Fish.
Allow Full Access
To use AI features (translation and Mini Chat), tap on Babel Fish in the keyboard list and enable Allow Full Access. This is required for the keyboard to connect to AI services.
Start Using Babel Fish
Switch to the Babel Fish keyboard in any app by tapping the globe icon. Use the Translate or Mini Chat features to access AI capabilities.
Purchase Help
Babel Fish Pro Lifetime
Babel Fish Pro is a one-time purchase (Non-Consumable In-App Purchase) that unlocks Mini Chat, all languages, all AI models, and future Pro features. There is no subscription or recurring billing.
Restore Purchases
If you have previously purchased Babel Fish Pro and need to restore it (after reinstalling or on a new device), go to the app settings and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
Refunds
All purchases are processed through Apple. For refund requests, please contact Apple Support or use the "Report a Problem" feature in your purchase history at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Troubleshooting
Keyboard not appearing
Make sure you have added Babel Fish in Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards. If it still does not appear, try restarting your device.
Full Access is disabled
AI features require Full Access to connect to the internet. Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Babel Fish and enable "Allow Full Access".
API key not working
Verify that your OpenRouter API key is correct and has available credits. Check your API key at openrouter.ai and ensure it has not expired or been revoked.
Translation or chat not responding
Check your internet connection. Ensure Full Access is enabled for the keyboard. Verify your API key has sufficient credits. Try selecting a different AI model.
Purchase not loading or stuck
Ensure you have a stable internet connection. Try closing and reopening the app. Check that you are signed into your Apple ID in Settings. If the issue persists, restart your device.
Restore Purchases not working
Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase. Check your internet connection. Try signing out and back into your Apple ID, then attempt the restore again.
Keyboard crashes or freezes
Try removing and re-adding the keyboard in iOS Settings. If the problem continues, reinstall the app from the App Store. Your Pro purchase can be restored after reinstalling.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Babel Fish record my typing?
No. Babel Fish only processes text that you explicitly submit through Translate or Mini Chat. We do not monitor, record, or collect your general typing activity.
Why does the keyboard need Full Access?
iOS requires Full Access for keyboard extensions to connect to the internet. This is necessary for AI features that communicate with OpenRouter and AI providers. Without Full Access, AI features will not function.
What happens to my text when I use AI features?
When you use Translate or Mini Chat, your submitted text is sent to OpenRouter, which routes it to your selected AI model provider. These third-party services process your text according to their own privacy policies.
Is my API key secure?
Your API key is stored locally on your device and is only sent to OpenRouter for authentication. We do not send your key to any other servers or share it with third parties.
