1. Introduction
Babel Fish is an AI-powered keyboard application for iOS that provides translation, AI-assisted writing, and Mini Chat functionality. This Privacy Policy explains how Babel Fish handles information when you use our application.
Babel Fish integrates with OpenRouter and third-party AI model providers to deliver its AI features. Users provide their own OpenRouter API key to access these services.
2. Information We Process
Babel Fish only processes text that you explicitly submit through specific actions such as using the Translate feature or Mini Chat.
Babel Fish does not continuously monitor all typing. Babel Fish does not collect background keystrokes. Text is only processed when you actively trigger an AI feature.
3. Keyboard Data
Babel Fish operates as a keyboard extension on iOS. Full Access is required only for internet-based AI features such as Translate and Mini Chat.
To use these features, iOS requires that you enable "Allow Full Access" for the keyboard extension.
When Full Access is enabled, the keyboard extension can connect to the internet to send your submitted text to AI services. Without Full Access, AI features that require network connectivity will not function.
Important: Babel Fish does not log, store, or transmit your general typing activity. Only text you explicitly submit through Translate or Mini Chat is processed.
4. AI Processing
When you use AI features, the text you submit may be transmitted to:
- OpenRouter (as the API gateway)
- The AI model provider you have selected (such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or others available through OpenRouter)
This processing occurs only when you actively trigger an AI feature. Babel Fish does not send data to AI services without your explicit action.
5. OpenRouter and Third-Party Providers
Babel Fish uses OpenRouter as an intermediary to access various AI models. When you submit text for processing, that text is sent to OpenRouter and then to the selected AI model provider.
Babel Fish does not control the data retention or privacy practices of OpenRouter or third-party AI providers. These services operate under their own terms of service and privacy policies.

6. API Key Storage
Your OpenRouter API key is stored locally on your device. The key may be stored in App Group shared storage to allow the keyboard extension to access it.
Babel Fish does not transmit your API key to any server other than OpenRouter for authentication purposes. We do not sell or share your API key with third parties.
While we implement reasonable measures to protect your API key, no method of electronic storage is completely secure. You are responsible for keeping your API key confidential.
7. Local Storage and App Group
Babel Fish stores settings and preferences locally on your device. The application uses iOS App Group functionality to share necessary data (such as your API key and settings) between the main app and the keyboard extension.
This data remains on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
8. In-App Purchases
Babel Fish offers in-app purchases through Apple's StoreKit framework. All purchase transactions are processed by Apple.
Babel Fish does not directly collect or process your payment information, credit card details, or billing address. For information about how Apple handles purchase data, please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy.
9. Data Sharing
Babel Fish does not sell your personal information.
Data is shared only as necessary to provide the AI features you request:
- Text you submit is sent to OpenRouter and AI providers to generate responses
- Your API key is sent to OpenRouter for authentication
10. Data Retention
Babel Fish itself does not intentionally retain the text you submit for AI processing. Once you receive a response, we do not keep copies of your submitted text on our systems.
However, third-party AI providers may have their own data retention practices. Please review the privacy policies of OpenRouter and your selected AI providers to understand how they may retain or use data.
11. User Responsibility
Important Notice
You should avoid submitting sensitive, confidential, or highly personal information through Babel Fish AI features. This includes but is not limited to: passwords, financial account numbers, health information, legal documents, trade secrets, or any information you would not want processed by third-party AI services.
You are responsible for the content you submit and for ensuring your use complies with applicable laws and the terms of service of AI providers.
12. Children's Privacy
Babel Fish is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
13. International Use
The AI providers accessed through OpenRouter may operate servers in various countries around the world. By using Babel Fish, you acknowledge that your submitted text may be processed in jurisdictions outside your country of residence.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
